From the Principal's desk:
We welcome your interest in seeking admission in Dawood College of Engineering & Technology (DCET) Karachi.
Year 2012 is a milestone year in the history of DCET in more than one ways. This is the year when the institution is completing 50 years of its remarkable service. Founded in August 1962 by Dawood Foundation, DCET has attained a degree of maturity after going through many ebbs and flows.
Then, this is the year when first batch of students is being admitted after devolution of the institution to the province of Sindh under 18th Constitutional Amendment. The institution had been taken over by the Federal Government in 1975 with the intention of developing it into a world-class seat of higher learning. Unfortunately, that aim could not be achieved fully due to a host of reasons: one of them being physical distance between the decision-making authorities stationed in Islamabad and the college located in Karachi.
The return of administrative control of the college to Government of Sindh has brought its own set of obligations and responsibilities. The first and foremost task was to meet the financial needs of the institution. In this regard, the Government of Sindh immediately allocated substantive budgetary provision for running this institution in befitting manner.
The next task has been to bring PhD faculty with adequate research profile to the college in order to improve further its research and academic potential. While writing these lines, the process of hiring such faculty is already under way. The College is also working on modernizing its laboratories, library and computer centers. With these measures the institution would be offering a better academic environment than it has offered at any time in the past.
The Government of Sindh plans to further upgrade the College from the status of degree awarding institution to a fully-fledged university. The process has already been initiated and hopefully would be completed very soon. In this regard the efforts of Sindh’s Senior Minister for Education Pir Mazhar ul Haq and Secretary Education Muhammad Siddique Memon are praiseworthy. Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah have also been very helpful in resolving the issues related to DCET.
All these efforts are being made to provide most congenial atmosphere to the talented students of our country as well as from abroad so that they may contribute towards the development and prosperity of their homeland and the world at large.
Bon voyage!
